Why Should We Reform Divorce Laws?

America's Divorce Rate:

• Is highest in world, with one divorce for two marriages since 1970 - 42 million.
• Shattered 40 million children, who are three times more likely to be expelled from school or become pregnant as those with married parents, five times as apt to live in poverty or to commit suicide and 12 times more likely to be jailed.
• Costs taxpayers tens of billions of dollars.

The Problem: No Fault Divorce	First Reform: Replace No Fault Divorce with Mutual Consent	Second Reform: Replace Sole Custody with Shared Parenting
Should be called Unilateral Divorce. One spouse can force a divorce, and every divorce is granted, violating the Constitution's guarantee of "due process." Unilateral Divorce is opposed by 80% of spouses.	If a couple has children and neither alleges fault (adultery, abuse), divorce should only be granted by Mutual Consent, reducing the divorce rate by 30% -- 300,000 divorces a year.	Replace a presumption of Sole Custody of children, limiting one parent's access to a day or two a month – with a presumption of Joint Custody or Shared Parenting giving each parent at least one-third time with children, cutting divorce rates another 20%, saving 200,000 marriages..
